Police say the man was struck by a Toyota Tacoma near Merrick Road. The driver is now facing charges, police say.
MERRICK, NY. — A Queens man was arrested and charged with vehicular assault, second-degree assault and driving while impaired by drugs Wednesday after a morning crash that left a NCPD crossing guard in critical condition, police said.
Nassau County police said Rosedale, Queens resident Joshua M. Alvarado was driving a 2020 Toyota Tacoma near Merrick Avenue when he struck a pedestrian at 8:03 a.m. Wednesday. The 30-year-old driver remained on the scene while the crossing guard was hospitalized, police said.
Police said Thursday afternoon that the crossing guard was in critical condition, but didn't identify the guard publicly. Alvarado was arrested after an investigation of the crash, and his arraignment was scheduled for Friday, police said.
