🌱NCPD Issues Car Theft Alert + Oyster Project To Improve Water

Here are the top five stories in Merrick today:

1. Nassau County Police issued an alert on February 5, notifying the public of an increase in stolen vehicles. The agency also noted an increase in catalytic converter thefts. Click over to the Rutherford Daily Voice for a list of tips to help deter thieves.
2. Plan ahead with help from the Merrick weather forecast for the week ahead at the Merrick Patch. Though meteorologists predict smatterings of sunshine throughout the week, there's also a chance of snow today.
3. Nicole Valinote reports that a man was hospitalized after suffering a medical event at a restaurant in Levittown on February 4. Witnesses say that a nurse gave the man CPR until emergency responders arrived. The man was listed in stable condition. (Daily Voice)
4. Take a look at five of the most recent additions to the Merrick-area real estate market over at the Merrick Patch. Among the possibilities is a five-bedroom in Freeport at $655,000 and a classic-looking three-bedroom in Merrick for $549,000.
5. John Asbury reports on a Hempstead cleanup plan to add oysters in Jamaica Bay. Scientists say adding the mollusks will help improve water quality. The task is a collaboration between town biologists, the Hudson River Foundation and New York Harbor School’s Billion Oyster Project. It's set to be completed over the next five years.
