New York American Water Offers College Scholarship for Students Pursuing Water-related Studies
College Scholarship for Graduating Seniors Pursuing Water-Related Studies Deadline to apply March 31, 2017

MERRICK, N.Y. (January 31, 2017) – New York American Water is offering five $3,000 scholarships to high school seniors who plan to pursue a career in the water utility industry or related fields. This is the seventh consecutive year New York American Water has offered scholarships to high school students within its service area as part of its commitment to fostering the future workforce and leaders of the state’s water supply. The scholarship program is part of an outreach effort by the New York Chapter of the National Association of Water Companies (NAWC), of which New York American Water is a member. Students must submit their applications no later than March 31, 2017.
“The water industry faces significant challenges, such as aging infrastructure and managing a finite supply, that require an abundant workforce of professional and skilled employees,” said Brian Bruce, president of New York American Water, and Chairman of the New York Chapter of NAWC. “The brightest minds in our high schools today will be needed to help our industry continue to meet these challenges and develop solutions. These scholarships are aimed at helping them achieve their educational goals and while cultivating the future leaders of the water industry.”
The scholarship is offered to all high school seniors in New York American Water's service areas who meet the following criteria:

· United States Citizen
· A New York resident for 5 years, living in one of New York American Water’s service areas

· High school senior pursuing a degree at a college or university (two- or four-year) as an undergraduate student (part- or full-time)
· Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 GPA grading scale
· Enrolling in a curriculum related to the water utility industry or related fields such as environmental sciences, biology, chemistry, engineering, computer science, environmental law, etc.
