North Merrick Civic Installs Dedication Plaque to Daniel Murphy

Editor's Note: This article was written by Claudia Borecky.

For the third year, the North and Central Merrick Civic Association is beautifying the bases of trees that line the business districts of Merrick Avenue.

On Saturday, May 4, the NCMCA's Merrick Avenue Beautification Committee held its first planting for 2013.  The Committee weeded, planted hostas, laid mulch and/or installed plaques at total of 13 sites on Saturday. We will again meet in the next few weeks for our second day of plantings within the next few weeks.

Pictured is the Beautification Committee working with Daniel Murphy's sisters who are kneeling on either side of the plaque that was installed in loving memory of their brother and fellow Merokean Daniel Murphy. In the back row are several members of the NCMCA's Merrick Avenue Beautification Committee.

Pictured from left to right are Jennifer Hyland with her daughter Rachel directly in front of her; Michael Borecky with his wife NCMCA President Claudia Borecky in front of him; Diana Zagariello with her daughter, Mia Faith in front of her; John and Nadine Decolator; Donna Greco and Marilyn Thabet -- all of whom helped weed and plant hostas at the bases of 13 trees that line Merrick Avenue's business districts in Merrick.

The NCMCA has an Adopt-A-Tree program where people can adopt a tree for $120.  For that price, the NCMCA's Merrick Avenue Beautification Committee will install a plaque at the base of a tree along Merrick Avenue in dedication to a family member or as an advertisement for a business and we will weed, maintain the site,  plant hostas and/or apply mulch.

Anyone interested in joining our Beautification Committee or to find out more information about Adopting-A-Tree, please call Claudia Borecky at 972-6988 or email her at claudliaborecky@gmail.com.
