Not Just Books: This Week's Library Events

There's plenty going on this week at both the Merrick and North Merrick libraries.

The first full week of school is also the first week of fall events at the Merrick Library and the North Merrick Library.

Whether you're looking for a class for your tot, your teen or even yourself, both libraries have much to offer residents this week–and most of it is free.

On Monday, the North Merrick Library's SAT Preparation class meets for the first time at 6:45 p.m. (There is a fee for this class). Over at the Merrick Library, parents and teens alike can attend a lecture dedicated to beating the high cost of college at 7 p.m.

On Tuesday, anyone looking to discuss or debate current events can head over to the Merrick Library at 2 p.m. No registration is necessary for this presentation/discussion.

For the toddlers in Merrick (and their parents), head to Tots Night Out at the North Merrick Library at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Games, stories, music and crafts are all part of the fun-filled hour.

Also on Wednesday, author Heather Worthington, who just published a book about Merrick's famous train-loving dog Roxey, will be at the Merrick Library at 7 p.m. for a meet and greet.

On Thursday, the Merrick Library is offering free breast cancer screenings. Appointments are necessary so be sure to call ahead. For the little ones, Play Hooray starts at the Merrick Library at 5 p.m. for 3-17 month olds, and 5:45 p.m. for 18-48 month olds.

On Friday, registration begins for an informative class on computer applications at the North Merrick Library.

If you need to contact one of the libraries, or register for an event, you can reach the North Merrick Library at 516-378-7474 and the Merrick Library at 516-377-6112.

We'd love to hear about any library events that you or your child have attended. Send us any photos or videos, and we'll feature them on the site.
