Here are the top five stories in Merrick today:
- A man was struck by a car and killed on Saturday evening while attempting to cross Jerusalem Avenue at Parc Lane in Hicksville. Police say that an 81-year-old man was on foot when he was hit by a Honda Civic around 7:15 PM. He was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital. The man's identity has not yet been released. (Daily Voice)
- A teen was arrested for the attempted murder of a police officer on Thursday, Feb. 17, according to the Nassau County Police Department. Witnesses say 18-year-old David Debose of Uniondale failed to pull over his vehicle for a traffic stop to address a malfunctioning headlight, then fled on foot. When officers caught up to Debose in Baldwin, he allegedly pointed a pistol at an officer's chest. (Daily Voice)

- Meteorologists are predicting a 'polar plunge' for much of the country in the upcoming week, with Saturday's regional squalls a possible harbinger of what's to come for Nassau. The National Weather Service issued a snow squall warning for parts of Long Island, which was in effect until 4:45 PM on Sunday. Additionally, Joe Lombardi reports another storm front headed in on Feb. 22, creating possible snow conditions for Thursday, Feb. 24. (Merrick Patch)
