Police: Motorcyclist Killed in Freeport Crash

Accident occurred Saturday morning.

A 58-year-old man died after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a minivan in Freeport Saturday morning, police said.

According to police, John H. Broems, of Freeport, was riding his 1997 Harley Davidson west on Merrick Road when he struck a 2000 Honda that was turning north onto Park Avenue.

Broems suffered severe head trauma in the crash and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The occupants of the minivan–a 53-year-old female driver and two 8-year-old boys in the rear of the vehicle–were not injured.

Both vehicles were impounded for a brake and safety test. There is no apparent criminality in the crash at this time, police said, as the investigation continues.
