Restaurant Fire Spreads To Other Businesses, Homes Evacuated: Police

MERRICK, NY — A fire swept through several Merrick businesses on Wednesday night.

The fire started in the kitchen of the Fuji Seoul restaurant on 151 Merrick Avenue, just before midnight, Nassau police said.

Merrick firefighters were assisted by the Roosevelt, Wantagh and Freeport Fire Departments in extinguishing the blaze.

Police said as many as five businesses were impacted by the spreading flames. Homes in the vicinity were evacuated as a precaution, police said.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury and was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

While the investigation is ongoing, detectives have deemed the fire non-suspicious.
