Savoy Tavern Enjoying Success in Merrick

Owner says he wants to help get Merrick town thriving again.

Since the Savoy Tavern opened at 16 Merrick Ave. on Jan. 14, business has been steadily picking up, and Owner Guy Savia is pleased.

"Business has been very good thankfully," he said "We really enjoy being in this area."

The Savoy Tavern recently hosted a Merrick ribbon cutting, where business leaders and local officials gathered to celebrate the new business coming to Merrick.

Savoy describes his eatery as a "high-end tavern" and he said that customers have been raving about the rice balls and cheeseburgers.

"We’re trying to get Merrick town thriving and get more things happening over here," Savoy added.

Hempstead Town Clerk Mark Bonilla said that small businesses are the key to success of any environment.

"The small businesses hire our own," he said. "Whether they're hiring the husbands and the wives of our community or the children, they play a pivotal role."
