School Vote 2018: North Merrick Budget And BOE Candidates

Here's everything you need to know before you head to the polls on May 15.

When North Merrick residents head to the polls on Tuesday, May 15, they will be voting on the school district's budget and Board of Education trustees.

The proposed budget for the 2018-19 school year is $32.5 million, an increase of about $1.1 million over the current spending plan. That comes with a tax levy increase of 3.34 percent, which stays within the limit set by the tax cap. According to the district, that comes out to a tax increase of $157 a year for an average North Merrick home.

Residents will also be casting a ballot for two of four Board of Education candidates. Todd Ransom and Steve Enella are incumbents, and they're being challenged by Michelle Gordon and Vincent Lentini. The North Merrick School District holds at-large elections, so whichever two candidates receive the most votes will win the seats.
