Schools In Lockdown Due To Bank Robbery: Principal

The lockdown ended in time for a normal dismissal for students, the Chatterton School principal in Merrick said.

MERRICK, NY — The Chatterton School was in lockdown briefly on Wednesday afternoon.

School principal Dana Bermas alerted families that there was a bank robbery in the area. A separate Facebook from the Bellmore-Merrick School District indicated police activity at the Roslyn Savings Bank on Merrick Avenue, which is adjacent to the elementary school.

"We have been notified from the Nassau County Police Department that all is now secure," Bermas wrote.

All normal procedures went back into effect and students were to have a typical dismissal, she wrote to parents.
