Scott Lipsky Makes Showing in US Open
Tennis star from Merrick plays in the men's doubles and mixed doubles events
Merrick’s Scott Lipsky rebounded from a tough opening round in the men’s doubles event at the US Open on Wednesday with a dominant win in the mixed doubles event Thursday.
Lipsky paired up with fellow American Rajeev Ram as they took on the German team of Michael Kohlmann and Alexander Waske. In a match that spanned three hours, Lipsky and Ram held a match point in the second set before ultimately falling 5-7, 7-6, 7-6.
However, Lipsky teamed up with fellow American and former world No. 1 Lisa Raymond in mixed doubles and put on a nearly flawless performance against the Italian team of Flavia Pennetta and Daniele Bracciali, losing just seven points on serve as they swept to a 6-0, 6-1 win in just 40 minutes.

“It’s obviously nice to rebound like this after losing such a close match yesterday,” said Lipsky. “Having a partner who’s so solid like Lisa definitely makes things easier on my end.”
Since winning his first Grand Slam title earlier this summer in the mixed doubles event at the French Open, Lipsky has struggled to build on the momentum, going 6-10 in tournament play. However, he insists it’s not a comedown.

“Mixed doubles is completely separate from the tour,” said Lipsky. “I was in London playing a match two days after that. It was an amazing feeling and something I’ll remember for the rest of my life, but you have to move forward.”
Lipsky and Raymond will now play the team of Jarmila Gajdosova of Australia and Bruno Soares of Brazil in the second round. Both players said they would love to end the year with another Grand Slam title under their belt.
“I’ve never been able to do well at the US Open,” said Lipsky. “I’ve lost in the first round of men’s doubles all five years I’ve come here, so it would be great to try and finally leave here on a high note.”
Lipsky lost in the second round of the mixed doubles.
