Sound Off: Should Forever 9 Field Sign Remain at Lakeside?
A petition had been started in support of the Forever 9 Foundation, which accumulated more than 900 signatures.

The Merrick-North Merrick Little League recently came to an agreement with the Merrick School District regarding their placing a sign on a local ball field to honor the Robbie Levine Foundation, which was started in memory of 9-year-old Robbie who died in 2005 of sudden cardiac arrest..
According to Joseph Rocco, the president of the league, the agreement states that the current sign will remain up at Levy Lakeside School through the end of the fall season.
"Meanwhile, we will be providing the Superintendent with sample signs of various dimensions for him to pick the final one," Rocco said. "It may still be the one that is hanging, or a different one. That sign will then be hung on the field next year."
"Unfortunately, the sign was placed without the permission or prior knowledge of the school district," Superintendent Dr. Dominick Palma said in an email to Patch. "The District has a longstanding practice of restricting the types of signs used on school grounds and of not naming school fields."
Before the agreement was struck, a petition was started online that gathered more than 900 signatures in support of the sign.
In addition, the Little League indicated that they would replace all field marker signs with more legible signs.
