Terrific Theatre Less Than a Train Ride Away

Visit the Merrick Theatre and Center for the Arts for their current productions.

Chances are, your picnic in the park that you had planned for this weekend is not happening any longer. Mother Nature has clearly decided that we are destined for ice, snow, and yes-even hail-for a bit longer than any of us, including Punksatony Phil, had imagined. The disappointments that goes along with the cancellation of the first outdoor event of the season is felt throughout the entire house.

Instead of entertaining guests over potato salad and turkey burgers, allow yourself to be the audience at the Merrick Theatre and Center for the Arts.

Two shows are currently playing at the establishment. For weekend relaxation with your friends or significant other, listen to the tantalizing tunes of Neil Sedaka with the well known hit Breaking Up Is Hard To Do. Travel upstate to the Catskills as Marge tries to recover from her very own runaway groom. Hearty laughs and melodies you can dance along with in your seat come to life with this performance every Friday and Saturday at 8:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. from now until April 17th. Tickets are $20, but discounted tickets are available to students and seniors on Fridays and Saturdays for $16.

While a night or afternoon out just for the adults might be possible for some, it is not a reality for all. Taking your children out does not necessarily have to involve tearing through bouncers, climbing ropes and art supplies. The famous Jungle Book is playing on Saturday afternoons at 2 p.m. until April 2nd.  The little ones will be entranced by Mowgli and friends, as you relax and take a mental journey back to your own experience of the Jungle Book and other like tales during your childhood. Tickets for these performances are $9 per person.

Bundle everyone up into their snow boots, scarves and sweaters, and get your fill of theatrical entertainment this weekend.
