The office of Immigration &amp; Refugee Services is recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice to counsel, process, file, and represent clients before the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and EOIR Immigration Court. Our organization provides essential support to Ukrainian Humanitarian parolees through the Ukraine Supplemental Appropriation to Resettlement Agencies (USARA) Program. Through USARA, we help individuals and families achieve stability, economic independence, and successful integration into the community. We serve Ukrainian citizens paroled into the U.S., as well as non-Ukrainians who resided in Ukraine and were paroled into the U.S. between February 24, 2022 and September 30, 2024. Our staff offers a wide range of social and employment services, including: • Development of a personalized self-sufficiency plan • Case management and referrals • Employment services, job search skills, and work experience opportunities • Outreach and community support • Social and cultural adjustment assistance • English language support • Help with school, benefits, and local resource navigation • Transitional services and employment retention support We serve Ukrainian citizens paroled into the U.S., as well as non-Ukrainians who resided in Ukraine and were paroled into the U.S. between February 24, 2022 and September 30, 2024. Rooted in compassion and dignity, Catholic Charities of Long Island is committed to helping newcomers rebuild their lives and feel safe, supported, and empowered within their new community.

Long Island Swim School is the teaching arm of the nationally ranked Long Island Aquatic Club. Our Learn to Swim programs create strong, safe, and confident swimmers for life. With locations in Garden City and Syosset we train over 2,000 children each week at every swim level from Beginner to Olympian. Long Island Swim School offers swim lessons for children ages 2 - 14years old. Two Hempstead men were arrested in Uniondale after a traffic stop found a gun in their car, police said. According to police, officers pulled over a 2003 Nissan Altima at Nassau Road just after 11:45 p.m. on March 16. While walking up to the car, police say that the officer smelled marijuana coming from the car. Police say that the driver, Michael Whitmore, 24, of Elk Street, Hempstead, was exiting the car and became uncooperative, and had to be restrained by officers after he reached into his pocket. Police say they found a loaded revolver on Whitmore, and then arrested him and his passenger, Shaquille Little, 24, of Willow Avenue, Hempstead. Whitmore is charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana and several vehicle and traffic law violations. Little is charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana. Both were arraigned on Sunday in First District Court in Hempstead.
