Trio Charged in Merrick, Bellmore Burglaries

One of the men tried to run away from police after crashing into a cop car on Sunrise Highway Tuesday, police say.

MERRICK, NY - Three Freeport men were arrested after a burglary at a T-Mobile store in Merrick on Tuesday, according to Nassau County Police.

The three men drove to the store on 2131 Merrick Road, threw a concrete brick through the glass window and entered the store at about 12:15 a.m., according to police.

Once inside, the men stole cell phones and electronic equipment, placed the proceeds into their car and fled the scene on Kenney Avenue, police said.

Officers responding to the scene saw the 2000 Mitsubishi travelling on Sunrise Highway and conducted a vehicle stop when the registration plates did not match the car description, police said.

The driver of the car, 22-year-old Charles Siebert, intentionally crashed the car into the police car causing damage, according to police.

He then failed to stop as he fled the scene on foot and resisted arrest, police said.

The other men, 16-year-old Anthony Morris, and 16-year-old Joseph Torres, both remained inside the car, according to police.

The officers saw the stolen items scattered about the inside of the car and all three were placed into custody.

Later it was found that the three were also responsible for another burglary on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at Kardesh Jewelry located at 2370 Merrick Road in Bellmore, police said.

The trio again threw a concrete brick through a glass window and stole assorted watches and jewelry, according to police.

A consent search was conducted and proceeds consistent with that burglary were recovered.

Both investigations are ongoing at this time.

Morris and Torres are each charged with two counts of third degree burglary, police said. Siebert is charged two counts of third degree burglary and resisting arrest, police said.

All three will be arraigned on Wednesday.
