Truck Driver Beat, Robbed While Delivering to Nassau Store

BREAKING: Police are searching for the two men they say attacked the driver and stole his money.

Police are searching for two men who attacked and robbed a truck driver making a delivery to a store in Roosevelt Tuesday night.

According to detectives, while attempting to make a delivery to W.Z. Food Market, located at 124 Park Ave., at 6:58 p.m., the 58-year-old driver, while inside his delivery van gathering the store's order, was approached by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun, demanding his money. When driver tried to exit the cargo area of the van, one of the robbers swung the van door, which struck the driver in the face.

After being repeatedly punched and kicked and held on the ground, the robbers reached into the driver's pockets and removed an undetermined amount of cash as well as his wallet. Both subjects then fled and were last seen running southbound on Park Avenue.

The driver, who had cuts and bruises on his head, was transported to an area hospital for treatment. He described the robbers as both being black men about 23 to 28 years old, 5 feet 10 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall and around 170 to 180 pounds. Detectives request anyone with information regarding this incident to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS. All callers will remain anonymous.
