Truck Stolen From Property, Crashes In Island Park: Police

ROOSEVELT, NY — An Island Park man was arrested for stealing a truck in Roosevelt.

Albert Garfield, 57, was taken into custody Sunday night after canvassing the neighborhood, police said.

He's accused of entering a fenced property on Nassau Road and going inside a 2001 International Harvester Landscape Truck. Garfield, according to police, drove the truck through the locked fence and onto Nassau Road.

A short time later, the same vehicle was involved in a crash in Island Park. The driver fled on foot leading to the search by police.

Garfield was arrested without incident.

He is charged with second-degree grand larceny, second-degree criminal mischief. third-degree criminal trespass, second-degree criminal possession of stolen property and leaving the scene of an accident.

Garfield was arraigned on Monday.

He was previously arrested in Feb. 2021 and charged with two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance; March 2, 2023, charged with third-degree robbery; March 25, 2023, charged with DWAI by drugs. He was convicted on April 30, 2023 with third-degree assault. In each instance he was released with no bail, police said.
