Village of Hempstead Mayor Wayne J. Hall Sr. Hosts Fishing Trip for Local Students

Hempstead, N.Y. – Village of Hempstead Mayor Wayne J. Hall Sr. recently invited more than 20 students from the Hempstead community on a fishing expedition in Port Jefferson, N.Y. While fishing on the private charter boat, participating students learned valuable life skills about the importance of dedication and patience in achieving their goals. Students also bonded with positive role models and Village leaders, including Deputy Mayor Luis Figueroa and Trustee Waylyn Hobbs.

The students were selected based on essays they submitted to the Village as part of its annual contest extended to all families, churches and community groups in the Village. The contest and trip was a reward for Village of Hempstead students’ hard work in school, and is pillar of Mayor Hall’s aim to help students hone their writing skills over the summer and improve academically. This event was also hosted in conjunction with President Obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper” mentorship intiative.
