Just in case you missed any Merrick news, here's what went down in your town last week:

On Sunday we visited the Merrick Patch Orioles, a Merrick Little League softball team sponsored by Patch, who, despite scoring seven runs, fell short to the Yankees.

On Monday, Patch visited Garfield Pharmacy, a staple in Merrick for more than 50 years. State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo introduced us to his legislation to create felony charges for repeat offenders in cases where children are seriously injured. In sports news, Kennedy boys lacrosse got a step closer to the postseason with a win over New Hyde Park.

On Tuesday, Patch was at the scene when a two-car collision sent one car into the State Farm Insurance building on Merrick Avenue. We also visited with second graders from Birch School as they welcomed the new goats at the Levy Preserve. We had a lot of sports coverage on Tuesday, as the Colts baseball team dominated Oceanside, the Cougars baseball team shut out Freeport, and the Cougars lacrosse team lost to the powerhouse Garden City Trojans.

Also on Tuesday, Patch caught up with some Kennedy students, for children with cancer. The Merrick Cook had warm weather in mind with a recipe for fruit smoothies.

On Wendesday, Patch brought you news of the Merrick School Board's appointing a new Lakeside School principal, Libby Trencheny. We also featured Merrick teenager Andrew Katzman, whose Bar Mitzvah side project turned into a creative art exhibit.

Merrick teams dominated sports on Wednesday, as Kennedy beat Oceanside on the diamond, and got revenge against Floral Park on the volleyball court. Calhoun boys baseball secured their second place spot in the postseason with a win over Carey.

On Thursday, we found out that North Merrick schools are among the top in the state. Not everyone in town was on good behavior, though, as we brought you the crime report, and the news that two people had been arrested for involvement in a recent burglary spree in our area.

Also on Thursday, we brought you a story on the Merrick Kiwanis Club, who honored three outstanding high school students. The undefeated Calhoun badminton team swept Mepham, advancing them to the county championship.

On Friday, Patch had full coverage of Merrick Avenue Middle School's spring concert and art show.  Merrick resident Derek Donnelly argued that building a casino on the Nassau Coliseum site was not the way to bring jobs to our area.

As always, Patch had thorough sports coverage on Friday. The Cougars clinched their top spot in the boys volleyball finals with a win, while the baseball team ended their season with a loss to Oceanside.

You might have been off on Saturday, but Patch was working hard. We visited a workshop for parents to get informed on transition services that are available for kids with special needs. Also, the Cougars softball team ended their season with a loss to MacArthur. Finally, Patch was on the scene when the dominating Lady Colts badminton team brought home the county championship.

Merrick Patch has a new Facebook page, so make sure you are still following us by clicking here. As always, send your photos and comments about anything going on around town to ryan@patch.com.
