Young Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash

A young man from Merrick died in a motorcycle crash in Bellmore Thursday night.

According to detectives, Brian P. Sammons, 21, of Merrick, was driving a 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound on Newbridge Road at 10:44 p.m. when he struck a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu that made a right turn from Oak Street onto southbound Newbridge Road.

Sammons was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a Nassau County Police paramedic. The 23-year-old driver of the Chevrolet remained at scene until police arrived. Both vehicles were impounded for brake and safety checks.

There appears to be no criminality at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
