1 Dead In Mid-Hudson Valley Fire Tuesday
The sheriff's office said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

ESOPUS, NY — The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a man Tuesday in an early morning fire. Officials said the fire occurred at 719 Old Post Rd. in the Town of Esopus around 2:30 a.m.
The sheriff’s office said the homeowner reported being awakened by a smoke alarm and saw the fire. The homeowner and a house guest were able to get out of the house safely and call 911.
A second house guest in the basement area was seen by the other two people and said he was going to retrieve some property.

He was later found dead inside the first floor area during firefighting efforts.

His identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Ulster County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, Ulster County Fire Investigation Unit, Esopus Fire Department, the fire departments of Rifton, Port Ewen, Highland, New Paltz, Milton, St. Remy, Tillson and Kingston, the Town of Esopus Volunteer Ambulance Squad, Mobile Life Support Services, New Paltz Rescue, Hurley Fire & Rescue and the Ulster County Fire Coordinator’s Office.
