1 Killed In 3-Vehicle Crash In Southern Ulster
Two of the vehicles were from the county Department of Public Works.
SHAWANGUNK, NY — One person died Monday in a three-vehicle crash in Shawangunk in southern Ulster County. State police said the crash happened around 9:30 a.m. on Albany Post Road on the Ulster/Orange county line.
Two of the vehicles were from the Ulster County Public Works Department, the state police said.
Authorities determined that a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado truck, which was one of the Ulster County vehicles, was being driven by Joseph J. Hull, 49. It was facing south on Albany Post Road and was attempting to back into a driveway.

A 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee being driven by Kevin Kazmar, 34, of Pine Bush, was going south on Albany Post Road and came up behind Hull's Silverado, striking it and causing it to go into the northbound lane, where it was struck by a 2008 Silverado traveling north on Albany Post Road.
The second Silverado was also an Ulster County DPW truck, driven by Andrew A. Basel, 52.

Police said the collision caused the Jeep to overturn in the roadway.
Kazmar was pronounced dead by Mobile Life. Hull and Basal were both taken to Orange Regional Medical Center where they were treated for minor injuries and released.
Ulster County Executive Pat Ryan said in a statement that the county employees in the trucks were assigned to a tree and brush clearing detail.
"On behalf of the entire county, I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the young man who passed away in this morning's accident in southern Ulster County," Ryan said.
He also said he wished for the full and speedy recovery of the county employees.
"County government will work closely with the New York State Police and the Ulster County Sheriff's Office as they investigate the accident and will additionally conduct a comprehensive internal review of all county policies and procedures to ensure the highest level of safety possible through all county operations," Ryan said.
