12-Year-Old Girl Shot, Killed In Kingston

A 9-year-old boy was shot and wounded in the incident.

KINGSTON, NY — A 12-year-old girl was shot and killed in Kingston Thursday.

The New York State Police said the shooting happened around 8 p.m.

The Kingston Police Department said on Facebook the shooting was at the rear apartment of 60 Van Buren Street.

Responding officers found the 12-year-old girl with a gunshot wound and a 9-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to his arm.

He was taken to MidHudson Regional Hospital for treatment and is in stable condition, authorities said. The child is expected to recover.

The girl died of her wound, police said.

Kingston police said the state police were asked to take the lead in the homicide investigation.

State police are asking anyone who may have seen anything unusual prior to or after 8 p.m. to call the Kingston barracks at 845-338-1702.
