$150K Worth Of Equipment Damaged At Former Psych Center

The man who was accused of damaging the equipment faces a felony charge.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — An Orange County man was accused of destroying construction equipment worth six figures. The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department said Shea William Kirschbaum, 32, of Maybrook, was charged with second-degree criminal mischief, a felony.

On Sept. 3, around 1:30 p.m., town detectives arrested Kirschbaum following a lengthy investigation of the destruction of an estimated $150,000 worth of heavy equipment at a construction site located at 3532 North Road in the Town of Poughkeepsie — which is the address of the former Hudson River Psychiatric Center.

Authorities said that during the incident Kirschbaum was seen on closed-circuit television on the property, as well as adjoining businesses, as he illegally entered the property, got into the machinery and damaged it.

He was arraigned and sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail or $50,000 bond.

The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, Town of Maybrook Police Department and the New York State Police.
