16-Year-Old Killed In 2-Car Crash In Hudson Valley

Authorities said the girl was attempting to pass another car when the accident happened.

WASHINGTON, NY — A 16-year-old Dutchess County girl was killed in a two-car crash Tuesday in the town of Washington.

The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office said the incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. on Route 82.

A sheriff's deputy happened upon the crash while on routine patrol on Route 82 near North Shanks Road.

The preliminary investigation found that a 2011 Subaru being driven by Madison Lynch-Dingee, 16, of Salt Point, was traveling north on Route 82 at what police described as "an unsafe speed."

Police said she attempted to pass a 2016 Acura, when the Acura's driver was trying to make a left turn onto North Shanks Road.

The driver of the Acura was unaware that the 16-year-old was trying to pass, police said.

According to authorities, the Lynch-Dingee's car struck the Acura, left the roadway off the western shoulder and ultimately hit a tree.

Lynch-Dingee died at the scene, officials said. The occupants of the Acura were not injured.

The sheriff's office said that no charges have been filed at this time.

While the cause of the crash is still being investigated, authorities said unsafe speed on the part of the Subaru appears to be a primary factor.

The sheriff's office was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police, Dutchess County Medical Examiner, Millbrook Fire Department and Northern Dutchess Paramedics.
