2 Accused Of Possessing A Stolen Gun

Police also said there was an accusation of drug possession.

NEWBURGH, NY — An impaired driving traffic stop led to accusations of illegal gun and drug possession in the city of Newburgh.

The New York State Police said, around 1:40 a.m. Tuesday, troopers stopped a 2019 Toyota Camry on South William Street in Newburgh for a traffic violation.

The driver of the Camry — Tashe Jackson, 33, from the city of Newburgh — was found to be impaired by drugs, police said.

She was subsequently charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor.

The two passengers in Jackson's car were identified as Octavious Griffin, 34, of the city of Newburgh, and Danyell Hardison, 35, of New York.

Police said, while being interviewed by the troopers, the pair tried to hide a Glock 9mm pistol and a magazine containing eight rounds.

Griffin was also found to be in possession of crack cocaine and $4,040, which was taken into evidence, according to authorities.

The pistol was reported stolen out of Conway, South Carolina, police said.

Jackson was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the City of Newburgh Court Sept. 2.

Griffin was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence and possession of stolen property, all felonies.

Hardison was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, tampering with physical evidence and criminal possession of stolen property, all felonies.

Griffin and Hardison were arraigned in the City of Newburgh Court and were sent to the Orange County Jail.

Hardison's bail was set at $5,000, $10,000 bond or $20,000 secure bond. Griffin was sent to jail without the opportunity for bail due to four previous felony convictions, police said.
