2 Dead In Single-Car Crash In Orange County

Troopers said speed was a contributing factor in the crash.

HAMPTONBURGH, NY — Two people died Saturday in a single-car crash in Orange County. State police said the crash happened around 6:45 a.m. on Route 208 in the Town of Hamptonburgh, in the northeastern part of the county.

Troopers found a 2005 Dodge Neon off the roadway against a tree on the eastern shoulder.

The driver was Holmes B. Shindon, 21, of Montgomery. His passenger was Alexis Lewis, 20, of Chester.

They were both trapped inside the vehicle. Shindon and Lewis were declared dead at the scene.

Police said an investigation found that Shindon was not wearing a seatbelt but Lewis was.

Speed was a contributing factor to the crash, police said.

Blooming Grove EMS and Hamptonburgh Fire Department assisted at the scene.
