2 Dead When Car Strikes Tree In Hudson Valley

Police said the car was engulfed in flames when they found it.

CLAVERACK, NY — Two people were killed in a one-car crash Sunday in Columbia County.

The New York State Police said the crash happened on Preusser Road in the town of Claverack.

Around 1 a.m. Sunday, troopers were sent to investigate a car that went off the roadway, struck a utility pole and burst into flames.

Police said they found Robert G. Bailly, 32, of Stockport, severely injured outside of the vehicle.

Kyle Germann, 25, of New York, was found dead inside the vehicle, police said.

Bailly was airlifted to Albany Medical Center where he later died of his injuries.

Philmont and Claverack fire departments were also at the scene rendering aid.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
