2 Face Drug Charges After Traffic Stop In Tuxedo
The trooper established probable cause to search the vehicle.

TUXEDO, NY — Two Newburgh residents face drug charges after being stopped for a traffic violation. State Police stopped a car on I-87 in the Town of Tuxedo being driven by Humberto A. Borges Jr, 41, of Newburgh, around 8:47 p.m. March 24 for a vehicle and traffic violation.
While speaking to him, a trooper established probable cause to search him and his passenger, Danielys M. Melendez Ortiz, 19, of Newburgh.
During the search, approximately 65.8 grams of heroin, 4.7 grams of cocaine and 3.5 grams of synthetic marijuana — K2 — were found, police said.

Borges and Ortiz were taken into custody.
Borges was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felonies, and vehicle and traffic violations.

Ortiz was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.
Borges was arraigned in the Town of Tuxedo Court and sent to the Orange County Jail without bail. He is scheduled to return to court March 29.
Ortiz was released on an appearance ticket to return to the Town of Tuxedo Court April 10.
