2 Kids In Car When Driver Arrested On Felony DWI Charges By Troopers

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — A Dutchess County woman was arrested in the City of Poughkeepsie for potentially putting the lives of two children at risk, according to state police.

On April 18, around 12:58 a.m., New York State Police said that troopers from Wappinger stopped a GMC traveling south on Church St., in the City of Poughkeepsie, for traffic law violations.

While speaking with the driver, 39-year-old Deneen C. Majors, of Poughkeepsie, the troopers noticed signs of intoxication, according to police. She was administered field sobriety tests which she failed, according to NYSP.

The troopers say that two children, ages 10 and 13, were also in the vehicle at the time of the stop.

Majors was arrested and taken to SP Wappinger for processing, where she reportedly refused to submit to a chemical breath test, police said.

State police said the children were turned over to a sober third party.

Majors was charged with two felony counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger; felony first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation; misdemeanor driving while intoxicated; and several vehicle/traffic violations.

She was issued traffic tickets returnable to the City of Poughkeepsie Court on April 27.
