2 Killed In Orange County Crash
Police said the incident began with a report of an erratic driver.
MONTGOMERY, NY — Two people were killed Friday night in a crash on Main Street in Walden in Orange County.
The New York State Police said, shortly before 10:30 p.m. Friday, Montgomery town police and Walden village police were called to check out an erratic driver going north on Route 52 in the town of Newburgh.
The 2018 Jeep Wrangler was seen on Main Street by Walden police and was stopped.

With Montgomery town police assisting, officers approached the Jeep, but the driver — Joann Schields, 52, of Pine Bush — took off in her vehicle going west on Route 52, police said.
After a short distance, Schields struck an eastbound 2013 Toyota Rav-4 head-on.

Elizabeth Bello, 35, of Wallkill, who was driving the Toyota, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two passengers, age 6 and 16, in her car were taken to Garnet Health Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Schields was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The state police are assisting the New York State Attorney General's Office with the investigation.
The Town of Montgomery, New Windsor and Newburgh ambulance corps, Mobile Life Support and the Walden Fire Department all assisted at the scene.
