2021's Most Annoying Word Or Phrase: Marist Poll

A longstanding choice for most annoying word was dethroned this year.

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — For the first time in more than a decade, the most annoying word or phrase is not "whatever."

According to a recent Marist Poll, at the top of the most annoying list this year are "Trump" and "coronavirus."

In contrast with previous years, when respondents received a set of response options from which they could choose, this year the Marist Poll asked an open-ended question that allowed people to provide answers in their own words.

The result was that nearly 600 adults from around the United States weighed in, and "Trump" and "coronavirus" were mentioned the most.
