3 Car Crash Sends 3 To Hospitals

CLAVERACK, NY — A crash involving three cars sent three people to area hospitals Wednesday in Columbia County.

The New York State Police said the crash happened shortly before 1 p.m. at the intersection of routes 9H and 66 in the town of Claverack.

The initial investigation found that Dean P. Beverly, 21, of Poughkeepsie, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado north on Route 9H when he failed to stop at a red light at the intersection, police said.

His car struck a 2002 Volvo S-40 driven by Seth Kritzman, 32, of Hudson.

The collision caused the Volvo to strike a 2007 Toyota Highlander driven by Lorie Pell, 56, of Hudson.

Police said the Silverado went off the road, overturned and caught on fire.

Troopers arriving at the scene broke the car's glass and extricated Beverly from the burning car.

Fire personnel extricated Kritzman from his car.

Both Beverly and Kritzman were taken to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries. Pell was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

Police said Beverly was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
