3 Inmates Indicted On Felony Charges In Violent Assaults On Guards At Green Haven

BEEKMAN, NY — Three inmates at a Hudson Valley prison are facing felony charges related to three separate assaults on guards, according to just unsealed indictments.

Dutchess County District Attorney Anthony Parisi announced on Thursday that the three indictments have been unsealed against inmates housed at Green Haven Correctional Facility in the Town of Beekman.

Ryan Laws, 48, Carine Reeves, 46, and Emmanuel Valentin-Perez, 23, are each charged with two counts of felony assault in the second degree in connection with assaults on on-duty corrections officers, according to the DA.

"These indictments send a clear message, violence against corrections officers will be met with decisive action and full accountability," Parisi said in a statement. "The men and women who serve in our correctional facilities perform an extraordinarily difficult and dangerous job, placing themselves in harm’s way every day to maintain safety and order."

The district attorney said that authorities will not turn a blind eye just because the violence occurs behind bars.

"An individual’s incarceration does not place violence beyond the reach of the law," he added. "When corrections officers are assaulted, our office will investigate thoroughly and prosecute those responsible to the fullest extent permitted by law. Protecting corrections officers is essential not only to their safety, but also to the security of every person who works or is housed within our correctional facilities.”
