3 Tractor Trailers, 2 DOT Trucks Involved In I-84 Crash

One man was airlifted to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

MONTGOMERY, NY — Three tractor trailers and two state transportation trucks were involved in a crash Saturday on Interstate 84. New York State Police released more details about the accident that happened shortly before 8:30 a.m. in the town of Montgomery.

The investigation found that the first tractor trailer was going west in the left lane when it entered a work zone along with two state Department of Transportation trucks.

The work trucks were slowing down in the left lane while putting in a lane closure in the construction zone with flashing arrows.

Another tractor trailer, also traveling west, tried to change lanes and struck the tractor trailer in the left lane and then moved back into the right lane where it struck the two DOT trucks.

One of the DOT trucks went off the roadway.

A third tractor trailer failed to stop and struck the DOT vehicle, causing it to roll over.

Steven Proctor, 61, of Clemons, North Carolina, was driving one of the tractor trailers. He was taken to Westchester Medical Center via medevac helicopter with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police said all other injuries were minor.

The road was closed for several hours with traffic diverted at Exit 28. All lanes were reopened at 5:30 p.m.
