4 Accused Of Possessing Stolen Handgun In Middletown

Police said the gun had been stolen out of South Carolina.

MIDDLETOWN, NY — Police retrieved a stolen handgun after a traffic stop in the city of Middletown.

The New York State Police said troopers stopped a 2021 Nissan Titan pickup truck on Grand Avenue in Middletown around 3:10 a.m. Saturday for a vehicle and traffic law violation.

While speaking to the driver, the troopers said they could the person reaching under the seat trying to conceal a handgun.

The driver and three passengers were removed from the truck, and troopers said they found a loaded Smith and Wesson .38 caliber revolver and a Sig Sauer P226 BB gun.

Authorities said a check on the revolver discovered it had been stolen out of South Carolina.

Three juveniles, including the driver, were charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, felonies.

They were released to the custody of their parents and Orange County Department of Probation.

The other passenger — Machi Plummer, 18, of the city of Middletown — was charged with the same felonies and released on his own recognizance.
