Niche.com ranked the top 40 colleges in New York where the food is thought to be top notch.

HYDE PARK, NY — When you think of going to college what factors into your decision to apply? Academy standards? Athletic teams? Living quarters? Beauty of the campus?

How about food?

With college being an intellect-nourishing time, it’s probably a good idea to know how the college you will be attending will also feed the students’ bodies. And we aren’t just talking about the dreaded Freshman 15.

Niche.com took a look at colleges in New York and came up with a list of schools with the Best College Food in New York.

At No. 1 in New York and No. 3 in the U.S., not surprisingly — and wouldn’t it be something if it wasn’t on the list — is the Culinary Institute of America, in Hyde Park in Dutchess County.

One review of the CIA, left on the Niche.com website, said, “The campus is absolutely gorgeous with water fountains and waterfalls as well as a clear view of the Hudson River. It’s spacious, colorful and full of places to eat! What more could one ask for in a college!?!?”

The two schools that were ranked higher than the CIA in the U.S. were University of California – Los Angeles at No. 1 and Virginia Tech at No. 2.

The rankings were based on self-reported student opinions about the quality of the campus food at the college and the average cost of meal plan, as reported by the college, to the U.S. Department of Education.
