7 Face Cocaine Possession, Distribution Charges In Newburgh

Three of the defendants were charged with conspiracy to distribute and sell to distribute 5 kilograms or more of cocaine.

NEWBURGH, NY — Seven people were charged in White Plains federal court Thursday for conspiring to sell cocaine in Newburgh. Geoffrey S. Berman, the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced the unsealing of an indictment charging Edwin Guerrier, aka “Eddy F,” Carlos Fabian and Fernando Ferrer with narcotics conspiracy, in this case the conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 5 kilograms or more of cocaine.

Also charged with narcotics conspiracy were Tamika Sweat, William Jones, aka “Polly,” Maurice Murphy, aka “Marky D,” and Eugene Johnson. They allegedly conspired to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine.

Three defendants were taken into federal custody March 22. Three others were taken into custody April 17. Tamika Sweat remains at large.

Authorities said the possession and distribution of the cocaine occurred from 2017 to March 2018.

Guerrier, Fabian and Ferrer face a maximum term of life in prison and a mandatory term of 10 years in prison.

Sweat, Jones, Murphy and Johnson face a maximum term of 40 years in prison and a mandatory term of five years in prison.

City of Newburgh Police Chief Doug Soloman said the arrests were another example of his department’s collaboration with the Hudson Valley Safe Street Task Force.

“We will continue to build cases against people who sell narcotics in our city,” he said. “We will utilize all of our local, state and federal partners in accomplishing this goal. This case should act as yet another reminder of how dedicated we are to eliminating crime and making our neighborhoods safer for the residents of the City of Newburgh.”
