8-Year-Old In Car When Driver Arrested For Felony DWI On Route 9: NYSP

The Mahopac man refused to take a chemical breath test, after being arrested in Fishkill, according to New York State Police troopers.

FISHKILL, NY — A Putnam County man was arrested in Dutchess County for potentially putting the life of a child at risk, according to state police.

On Wednesday, around 11:02 a.m., New York State Police said that troopers from Wappinger stopped a Subaru traveling on Route 9, in the Town of Fishkill, for traffic violations.

While speaking with the driver, 40-year-old Skirianos M. Skirianos, of Mahopac, the troopers noticed signs of intoxication, according to police. He was administered field sobriety tests, which he then failed, according to NYSP.

The troopers say an 8-year-old child was also in the vehicle at the time of the stop.

Skirianos was arrested and taken to Wappinger for processing, where he refused to submit to a chemical breath test, police said.

Skirianos was charged with felony aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger; and misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.
