Accord Man Charged With Reckless Endangerment, Felony DWI

There was a police pursuit and then a crash.

GARDINER, NY — A police pursuit ended with the crash of a pickup truck and the arrest of an Ulster County man. State police said Michael B. Smith, 32, of Accord, was charged with reckless driving, a misdemeanor, and first-degree reckless endangerment and driving while intoxicated with previous conviction within 10 years, felonies.

Around 5:45 p.m. Nov. 4, state police in Highland responded to a report of a Dodge Ram pickup traveling recklessly on State Route 32 in the Town of Rosendale.

The pickup was previously involved in a pursuit with the Rosendale police.

A trooper saw the vehicle at the intersection of State Route 213 and State Route 32 going at a high rate of speed and passing vehicles in a no-passing zone.

The trooper followed the pickup into the Town of Gardiner where the pursuit was terminated in the interest of public safety, police said.

Around 6:05 p.m., troopers responded to a report of a white Dodge pickup that crashed on State Route 44/55 in the Town of Gardiner.

The first trooper to arrive at the scene said he saw Smith walking away from the crashed vehicle.

He was arrest and arraigned in the Town of Esopus Court. He was sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail or $100,000 bond.

Smith is scheduled to appear in the Town of Esopus Court Nov. 5.
