Accused Of Khat Possession On Thruway
Khat is a controlled substance, according to the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.

NEWBURGH, NY — An upstate man was accused of drug possession after being stopped on the Thruway. State police said Nagmuddin M. Eltobah, 41, of Utica, was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and multiple vehicle and traffic violations.
Police said that, around 1:20 a.m. Feb. 2, troopers stopped a vehicle on I-87 in the Town of Newburgh for multiple traffic violations.
During an interview with Eltobah, who was the driver, probable cause was established to search the vehicle, police said.

He was found to be in possession of about 106 grams of Khat, a Schedule I controlled substance, according to authorities.
Eltobah was arrested and taken to the Newburgh barracks where he was processed.

He was arraigned in the Town of Newburgh Court and sent to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail or bond.
A return court date of Feb. 7 has been scheduled.
