KINGSTON, NY — Justice has been served in an infamous Hudson Valley slaying.

The Ulster County District Attorney's Office says that 50-year-old Damon Foy, of Kerhonkson, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to second-degree murder.

Prosecutors say that between March 31, 2024 and April 1, 2024, Foy murdered 44-year-old Alberta Dale, of Pennsylvania, dismembered her, and was disposing of her body when law enforcement intervened. Before her murder, Dale had recently ended her relationship with Foy.

On April 1, 2024, the Ulster County Sheriff's Office conducted a welfare check for Dale at Foy's home after family members in Pennsylvania contacted authorities. After a formal missing person investigation began, the Ulster County Sheriff's Office and other local law enforcement agencies started a search to find Dale.

On April 2, 2024, a member of the public found a suitcase on the side of the road in the Town of Wawarsing, which was later determined by law enforcement to belong to Dale. The discovery led authorities to believe that foul play was involved in Dale's disappearance.

The Sheriff's Office obtained search warrants for Foy's home and other locations, resulting in additional evidence indicating foul play and ultimately leading to Foy's arrest for the murder.

"Over the past two and a half years, our office committed significant resources to this case and worked closely with the Ulster County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police, and our law enforcement partners to hold Damon Foy accountable," Ulster County Chief Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Culmone-Mills said. "Alberta's family showed extraordinary strength and trust throughout this process. We are grateful to them, and to every investigator, prosecutor and member of our office who dedicated so much to seeking justice for Alberta."

Sentencing is set for December 1, in Ulster County Court.

"This case exemplifies in one person the evil of domestic violence," Ulster County District Attorney Emmanuel C. Nneji said. "The total selfish disregard for the life and dignity of another person is at the heart of domestic violence; Damon Foy has shown that to us. We must recognize in our laws the rights of victims of domestic violence to be physically, psychologically, and emotionally safe from their tormentors and the dangers specifically targeted for them, and demand procedures that actually protect victims for real, not just on paper."

The DA's Office said that they were assisted by the New York State Police Troop F, including their Forensic Investigation Unit, Bureau of Criminal Investigation personnel from the Ellenville, Highland, and Kingston barracks, and their Major Crimes Unit, along with the Ulster County Medical Examiner's Office.
