Ozone Alert Expanded To More Of Hudson Valley: UPDATE
The air quality alert was expanded to cover additional counties.

An air quality alert was also issued for Orange and Putnam counties. The National Weather Service said the alert is in effect until 11 p.m. Friday.
MID-HUDSON VALLEY, NY — An air quality alert was issued for Dutchess and Ulster counties Friday in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The National Weather Service said air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an air quality index value of 100 for ozone.
When pollution levels are elevated, the state Department of Health recommends that people consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects.

People who may be sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young and those with pre-existing respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease.
Additionally, because temperatures in the Poughkeepsie area will climb to near 90 degrees, not factoring in the humidity, the City of Poughkeepsie has opened a cooling center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Public Safety Building, 505 Main St.
