Alzheimer's Association offers programs in Dutchess, Ulster

Educational workshops are scheduled in April at various locations

The Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter will offer the following programs in April:

There will be two “Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body: Tips from the Latest Research” programs on Thursday, April 12. One will be held from 11 a.m. to noon at the Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center, 300 Wall St., Kingston, and the other from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Resource Center for Accessible Living, 727 Ulster Ave., Kingston. This workshop offers information on lifestyle habits associated with healthy aging: Cognitive activity, nutrition, exercise and social engagement. “The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease” will be held from 1-2 p.m. Friday, April 13, at the Ellenville Public Library, 40 Center St., Ellenville. This free educational workshop will offer information on diagnosis, risk factors, disease stages and treatment options. “Effective Communication Strategies” will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, at Hopewell Reformed Church, 143 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. Behavior and communication changes that occur in each stage of dementia can be confusing for family, friends and caregivers. This program explains the communication changes and identifies strategies to connect and communicate at each stage of the disease. “Understanding and Responding to Dementia Related Behavior” will be held from 6-7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, at LaGrange Library, 488 Freedom Plains Road, No. 109, Poughkeepsie. This program will explore how communication happens when the ability to use words is lost and how to respond to some common behaviors exhibited by people with dementia.
