Alzheimer's Association seeks special event planner
Someone with an event planning and development background is desired to manage the Dutchess/Ulster and Putnam Walk to End Alzheimer's events

The Alzheimer’s Association Hudson Valley Chapter is seeking a manager for its Walk to End Alzheimer’s events in Dutchess/Ulster and Putnam counties.
Working collaboratively with managers for the Orange/Sullivan, Rockland and Westchester walks, the person in this position will execute timelines and production schedules for the Dutchess/Ulster and Putnam Walk to End Alzheimer’s events, including organizing kickoff and wrap-up activities, outreach and communications.
The role includes community outreach in Dutchess, Putnam and Ulster counties to cultivate new and existing donors, participants and volunteers for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. It also involves recruiting committees and working with them to create successful events.

In collaboration with the director of corporate relations, the person in this position will also create a walk sponsor proposal and work to secure corporate teams.
Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and experience working with volunteers. Prior related work experience is desired, preferably in sales or event fundraising in a nonprofit setting. Previous mass-market event experience in a supervisory capacity is also preferred.

Other desired qualities include dedication to realizing aggressive goals, strong organizational skills, attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills are important, including an ability to cold call, grow local business contacts and build effective business relationships.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated ability to work independently on projects, establish priorities and meet deadlines. The role also requires integrity, diplomacy and initiative as well as the ability to represent the organization in a professional manner.
Proficiency with Microsoft applications, especially Word and Excel, is desired, as is a familiarity with social media.
This is a full-time, salaried position based in Poughkeepsie and comes with a full range of benefits. A valid New York State driver’s license is required, as there will be some travel within the chapter’s other six counties. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research programs. Last year the Hudson Valley Chapter’s five walks raised more than $1 million.
