TOWN OF WAPPINGER, NY — State police who arrived at a domestic violence ended up arresting one of their own, according to the agency.
The New York State Police say that on Thursday, around 10:24 p.m., troopers responded to a home in the town of Wappinger after receiving the report of a domestic dispute.
The victim told police that they had been struck and prevented from calling 911 by 28-year-old Brian D. Huyghue Jr., an investigator with the New York State Police assigned to the Bureau of Criminal Investigation in New York City.
Huyghue was arrested and charged with misdemeanor third-degree assault and misdemeanor fourth-degree criminal mischief.
He was arraigned in the Town of Wappinger Court and released on his own recognizance. A temporary order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.
State police said the investigation is remains ongoing.
