The victim was shot in the back and survived, but had to undergo surgery and was hospitalized for several days, prosecutors said.

Cornwall pleaded guilty on March 4 to one count of first-degree assault for the September 27, 2025 shooting, which happened in front of 313 Main St.

Dutchess County District Attorney Anthony Parisi called it a “calculated act of violence that could easily have resulted in a loss of life.”

“The defendant chose to use a loaded firearm in a public setting, causing serious physical injury and putting others at grave risk,” Parisi said. “This sentence reflects the seriousness of the offense and our commitment to holding violent offenders fully accountable.”
