TOWN OF NEWBURGH, NY — A New York State Police K9 sniffed out an illegal gun during a stop on the Thruway, according to the agency.
The New York State Police said that on May 22, at 7:49 p.m., members of the Troop F Community Stabilization Unit, along with the Special Investigations Unit, saw a 2016 Dodge traveling west on I-84, in the town of Newburgh, in violation of several traffic laws.
After troopers stopped the vehicle, they identified the driver as 52-year-old Gary D. Price, of Poughkeepsie, and the passenger as 46-year-old Taleatha Thomas, of Irvington, New Jersey.
NYSP K-9 Kell then conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicle, leading to a positive alert, according to police. A search of the vehicle led to troopers recovering a loaded Ruger SR40C .40 caliber handgun, NYSP said.
Price and Thomas were arrested and taken to SP Montgomery for processing.
They were each charged with felony criminal possession of a firearm; and felony second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
Price and Thomas were arraigned at the Orange County Central Arraignment Part.
