HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Dangerous heat and humidity and potentially severe thunderstorms are in the forecast for the region, according to meteorologists.
“Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible nearly every afternoon/evening through the weekend,” the National Weather Service said.
There is a chance for showers and thunderstorms today, and some storms could be severe, according to its meteorologists.
An extreme heat warning is in effect for the Mid Hudson Valley until 8 p.m. Friday, with heat index values of 105 to 110 expected, according to the National Weather Service.
A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for southeast New York, where an extreme heat warning is in effect until 9 p.m. Friday, and an extreme heat watch is in effect from Friday evening through Saturday evening. From now until Friday, heat index values between 110 and 115 are expected. For Saturday, heat index values of up to 105 are possible.
The heat wave will increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, the National Weather Service cautioned.
Residents are advised to stay in air conditioning, drink plenty of fluids, and check on relatives and neighbors. If you need help finding shelter from the heat, call 211.
An air quality alert is in effect for Rockland and Westchester counties in the Hudson Valley until 11 p.m. due to ground level ozone.
